Livestock Ownership and Consumption of Animal-source Foods in Sub-Saharan Africa: What Do the Data Say?
The presentation explores the possible direct connection between ownership of animals and consumption of animal foods in rural areas in seven sub-Saharan African countries. Livestock ownership appears to be positively ensuring avoidance of protein and micronutrient malnutrition. The potential impact of increased livestock production and productivity on household nutrition are also explored, and research priorities identified.
