The role of fish for nutrition and health

Using Bangladesh as a case study of a country with rich fisheries resources and fish as a common, irreplaceable animal-source food in the everyday diet, diversity of fish species consumed by the poor will be discussed in relation to dietary diversity and nutrient contribution. The trend in aquaculture in terms of decreased diversity of fish species, and the potential use of innovative fish production technologies and fish products to increase the quantity and diversity of fish consumed, as well as the supply of multiple micronutrients in the 1,000 days will be presented.
